On the Bow River in the southeast end of Calgary you can often find a flock of pelicans. They look so out of place, that you are bound to do a double take. Then you can’t help but admire them. They are majestic! This type of pelican, American White Pelicans, are mainland birds, not sea birds. They like to come to Calgary April through October. Apparently they come here to forage, rest and travel through. Their breeding grounds are not in the city. Something to look for on the Bow River in the summer months!
