Egmont is nestled at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast. From an outdoor dining room overlooking the ocean, hummingbirds could be seen flitting back and forth between the flowers on the lower deck. Although the food was beautifully prepared, the pull of movement and colour below made it hard to linger. The snacks were finished quickly, cameras gathered, and attention shifted to the deck below.

At a nearby table, three children sat with their family. Fine dining can be challenging for young children, and when one little boy struggled to sit still, he was sent down to the lower deck. While photographs were being taken, he was asked if he could see the hummingbirds. He said he couldn’t. When shown an image on the back of the camera, his face lit up with excitement. Later, when his sisters joined him on the deck, he eagerly pointed out the hummingbirds as they raced between the flowers.
